In 1958, George Sullivan concluded that fiberglass, a new and revolutionary building
material, would be perfect for constructing swimming pools. He built his first fiberglass
pool in Seattle, WA, and in the process, founded San Juan Products. Today, that
swimming pool is still in use-and is still beautiful and durable.
The fiberglass that San Juan uses has a multitude of advantages. It is made of 100-percent
vinyl ester throughout its entire laminate structure, making it well-built and tough.
The surface is smooth to the touch and repels algae. Maintenance costs are negligible,
as the use of chemicals and electricity is minimal, and because the finish is smooth
and non-porous, acid washing, sand blasting, replastering and repainting are not
required.
Homeowners everywhere are becoming more knowledgeable about the high quality of
San Juan fiberglass pools," states Kirk Sullivan, president of San Juan Products.
"Our pools are permanent, and they do not require constant remodeling."
As a building material, fiberglass is ideal for the production of more than the
traditional backyard swimming pool. In fact, fiberglass is also perfect for indoor
applications. Because San Juan crafts each pool at a factory, extra amenities, like
custom jets, water features and decorative tile, can be added before delivery, giving
customers the chance to create poolscapes that fit into their lifestyles.
San Juan is constantly devising new ways to use fiberglass, and offers negative
edges, spas, therapy pools and an assortment of other specialty models. "What many
are now discovering is that we can use fiberglass in a variety of ways, not just
in the construction of conventional pools," explains Sullivan. "After five decades
of learning about fiberglass pools, we believe that San Juan Products, which are
sold by dealers nationally, offers the best value for the money."
